Nov 22 - DeepSoul Deities, the Boys n the Barrels, the Dharma Bums

Saturday, November 22, 2008

The Boys N' The Barrels, The Dharma Bums (formerly the North Country Bandits), and Deep Soul Deities, Saturday, November 22nd.

This was a great night! We packed the Acadia, supported local music and community radio, and made new friends! It was cold outside, but warm inside the coziness of the Acadia! The DeepSoul Deities got people dancing with an impressive instrumental opening set. The Boys and the Barrels got people stompin and hollerin with a well balanced set of progressive and traditional, all original bluegrass songs. The Dharma Bums closed down the night into the wee hours of Sunday morning, keeping everyone goin with a beautiful blend of vocals by Doug Otto, Nick Mrozinski, and Drew Druckrey, Rich Casey on bass, and Chris Gray on drums. The night was hosted by KFAI's Sarah Lageson.

CD Release Party for The Get-Rites Saturday, November 8th

The Get-Rites honored us with the pleasure of hosting their CD release this week! Their new CD “Tin Roof Sky” has been called "….a fantastic roots/country-rock album with the influences of spiritual music and a touch of the great names such as The Byrds, Poco and even Pearl Jam" (Sjaak Sekeris, A shake of Music, The Netherlands). They played two great sets, giving us at the Acadia a peek into their new CD. Opening the night was a stripped-down version of Six Mile Grove, featuring Brandon Sampson and Barry Nelson. Closing the evening was the Mark Thomas Stockert Band. It was a big day for KFAI - the 30th Anniversary party!, so this final ambient set was perfect. The evening was hosted by KFAI's Jackson Buck.
